#ChooseToChallenge: Gender Stereotypes

Women in India have always shown that with hard work and determination any gender stereotype can be challenged. Be it sports, medicine, corporate world, art, fashion, cookery, air force, hospitality, IT etc. in all these spheres women in India have shown that the path may be difficult; but with the inner will power to succeed nothing can stop them.

There are many examples around us where women have broken gender stereotypes and have become successful.

  1. A lady auto rickshaw driver, Sheetal in Mumbai started driving to feed her family but during the Covid times is providing free service to the needy and poor especially during emergency situations.
  2. Rajani Pandit, India’s first woman private detective started her career in 1991 and was ridiculed by many. Today she has successfully solved 75,000 cases.
  3. Nirmala Devi: 60-Year-Old Sarpanch who made her panchayat open defecation free.
  4. Jahan Geet Singh is the youngest female dhol player of India
  5. Air India’s All Woman Crew who created history by flying over the North Pole
  6. Dr. Swati Mohan who was part of the operation of NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover.

I have just mentioned a few examples of women who I have got inspired from by reading their stories. Women across the world and in every sphere of life are breaking gender stereotypes and I must say that this would not be possible without the support from their families and of course their teams.
