What a big word having so many interpretations. All of us look at it with different lenses and have different perspectives about the same situation. One of the main reasons I thought about writing on this is to share what I learnt from the movie Drishyam 2. A perfect script, story-telling and acting that create a mix of twists and turns that all ends up in a climax no one might have thought about.
The mindfulness of Georgekutty in the complete movie is something that keeps all the viewers at the edge of the seat throughout the movie. He is not only mindful of the surroundings but also about the safety of his family. So what is mindfulness? Is it being protective or being cautious. Or is it being able to focus and predict the repercussions and hence behaving in a particular way.
Mindfulness, refers to being in a positive state of mind and being aware of your actions and its effects. Positivity is the key to being in a happy state of mind and thus helps you focus and be mindful of your decisions. All decisions made by us have an impact, but what is really important is that intentionally with our words or actions we should not hurt anyone.
Meditation is one techniques we can use to stay relaxed and calm and think in a logical and practical way to find solutions to problems. Another technique that people can use is called “Imagery” where you close your eyes and imagine both the negative and positive aspects of a particular event and once that is clear when you open your eyes you are able to take a more informed decision. Pursing a long lost hobby like reading a book, going on a trek, spending time with family etc. can also help you stay calm and relaxed.
What is important is that we need to be mindful of our behavior, our communication, body language etc. Having a positive and happy state of mind helps keep us calm and composed. We would be able to take right decisions and react to situations in the right way.

Wow Surekha as always very beautifully presented your thoughts on mindfulness… Very truly said normally we don’t think before reacting on any situation… If we all do it I think major problems will get resolved & it will reflect a positive attitude & less stress in everyone’s life.
