Hiring Post Pandemic

Many offices are slowly opening up post pandemic after having had employees working from home since 18 months. During these months, many things have changed including the entire gamut of HR activities. The HR team would need to look at hiring from a new lens. What was permissible as the required skill set for a particular role has now changed. Now it is not only the experience but employers will be looking at whole new set of skills that would be a combination of technical as well as soft skills. The ability of being a good communicator, being empathetic, ability to manage a team of diverse individuals with varied skills and varied age groups will be the skills that are in demand.

Changes in the job market like candidates not aspiring for new roles and many passive candidates are going to be on a steep rise. In non-tech sectors, it’s going to be be more on retaining your current employment than being aspirational. There would also be a shortage of workforce coming back to the physical work. In fact, many companies like the TATAs and Infosys have already mentioned that they are expecting 50% or more of their workforce to only work from home permanently.

Another impact has been the rise of entrepreneurs across India. This has led to many youngsters thinking of taking a risk and also a large number of resignations. People have decided to take the plunge and create start ups that would grow substantially and over time give them huge returns.

In the tech sector, many candidates seeking jobs are having multiple job offers and are using that as a tool for negotiation. If companies do not close their recruitment process in shorter spans, it would surely lead to loss of top class candidates.

Covid has led to many candidates being able to spend more time with family and create a work life balance. Thus, they are preferring to get back to work schedules that would help them to continue this. They are open and ready to sacrifice the small increment in pay with family time. Candidates want flexible / hybrid work environments and les of work pressure and stress.

Thus, the recruitment team of any organization must be well equipped with the required skills set to make it a smooth recruitment process for the candidate and make your company the employer of choice for the candidate.
