Ubuntu : Way Of Life

Ubuntu is an African concept referring to “humanness”. So what is so different in the the way African people live and the rest of the world is their way of life. I got attracted to learning and researching more about it after watching a documentary with my son on Netflix. It showed how a basketball coach had incorporated the teachings of Ubuntu in the team which led them to win many championships. So I got curious and did a lot of reading. I learned that:

  1. Ubuntu is based on the philosophy that an individual is made based upon his surrounding relationships and bonds.
  2. What is important is group consensus and decision and not individual opinions.
  3. Team and group bonding is the essence of Ubuntu.
  4. It is a feeling of moral obligation to think for others before yourself.
  5. It incorporates the feeling of empathy, trust and brotherhood.

The above principles are quite easy to follow and implement in our daily lives. I am sure that if we slowly start imbibing these lessons we can in a matter of time see a miraculous change in our relationships with people.
