Build your Relationships

I once read that relationships are like glass balls and it is very important for each of us to treasure each of these relationships. In life we can juggle work, hobby, fitness but if we don’t focus on nurturing relationships then you would be all alone in life when you need them the most. Every relationship in our life be it with our parents, siblings, other family members, friends, office colleagues, neighbors, our kids, our house help etc. have a very important role to play in our social, personal and professional life.

Here are a few ideas which I have implemented in my life to build strong relationships.

  1. Respect : Any relationship demands equal respect by both individuals. At any point in time if any of the individuals fails to respect the other it would definitely lead to hurting the sentiments of the other. Such relationships are usually one sided. Over a period of time such a relationship would end on a bad note.
  2. Trust : This is one of the most important principles of building a long lasting relationship. The moment you fail to have trust is the moment the relationship ends.
  3. Integrity : Honesty and integrity are the building blocks of any relationship. Both individuals must speak the truth to each other. The ability to stay strong and face the truth is a sign of a strong bond.
  4. Responsibility: It is the responsibility of both individuals to maintain a happy relationship. If only one individual keeps taking the burden and the other does not reciprocate then over the period of time the relationship will fade away.
  5. Partnership: A relationship is a two way partnership of give and take. This can be in terms of celebrations of important events and festivals, sharing of emotions and feelings or standing up for each other under all circumstances. This partnership is a very fine line and both individuals are expected to follow.

I have lived by these guiding principles and they have really helped me build a lasting relationships. I hope you start following a few of them and they help you in your life ahead.
