Small Things Make the Big Difference

As I was thinking about what is it that has made me what I am today, the one thing that stands out is the small things of life which I have enjoyed doing since childhood. This includes keeping in touch with family, wishing them on special occasions, being there during tough times, giving a listening ear to close friends, motivating my colleagues to believe in themselves, sending gifts to make family and friends feel special just to name a few.

Though all this may look very small, doing these has given me happiness and helped me grow personally and professionally. The sheer fact that I could bring a smile on someone’s face gives me a sense of happiness. I feel I have made a difference. It gives me satisfaction and a sense of fulfillment. I get motivated positively.

While I introspect all these are positive feelings and the main cause for the positive attitude to life I always have. Over a period of time everyone faces some good experiences and some bad. But I have always been able to face these situations boldly with an attitude that “this too shall pass”. Every individual’s life is filled with a mix of good and bad experiences. If you can do anything to make someone feel happy even momentarily it is worth all the efforts.

I have also tried my bit to pass this value to my son. Of course at his age he does things like making cards for family on special occasions , doing video call with his grandparents during the pandemic , making me laugh with some of his monkey business in days when I feel low . I consciously feel these small things will surely help him in the long run to realize the importance of “small things make a big difference”.
