We are in a day and age where our lives revolve around technology. We get up in the morning and the first thing we do is see our cell phone. We don’t realize how much of the precious morning time we waste just reading messages and seeing silly videos. Technology has made such a huge impact that from eating , to sleeping every time we are dependent / use some or the other technology.
So, I was reading an article which was about designing a water bottle which would help people drink more water in the day. Many participants designed bottles using technology like every time you drink water a green light glows from the bottle , bottles showing how much water you have had for the day, bottles which are help you set alarms to drink water , bottles attached to an app to remind you to drink water etc. But, the bottle which attracted most attention was that which was simple and had nothing to do with technology. It was transparent and it showed amount of water you have consumed through the day.
A few days back , I saw an advertisement demonstrating the launch of a product to dispense tooth paste. So there’s a holder where you place the tooth paste and its like a dispenser which would pull out paste.
If I close my eyes and think what all are the electronic products I use during the day, I can count on more than 10 appliances. Starting from the mobile , laptop, kindle , vegetable chopper , juicer etc. just to name a few. But all these devices have their own use which cannot be duplicated. Hence these appliances help in making my life easy.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we soon discover a robot who will exercise daily for 45 mins and the owner of the robot in turn shreds weight.
What I am trying to say here is that we are so use to technology around us that even for a simple thing like drinking water we look for technology. We don’t realize that man made technology for helping him to simplify difficult tasks and not vice versa. Where are we heading? We are complicating even small basic day to day activities. I am really scared of this continuous advancement of technology.
Man started using technology to help him complete his tasks. But looks like with the introduction of AI and machine learning we are slowly going to move to a stage where we learn from technology. Let’s become aware of this danger soon and proactively take the appropriate steps to ensure that we don’t need to face such a situation in our near future.
