This tool was created by Hugo Alberts. The main aim is to create a holistic perspective about human emotions be it positive or negative. It is about having a 360 degree perspective of your life and then taking control of it despite the challenges , obstacles , hurdles you face in achieving your goal.
He talks about water being the most element for a sailboat to sail and uses it as a metaphor to compare it to the environment around us. we are surrounded by an external environment and we also have the internal environment within us. Its a combination of both these environments that make us behave , respond and react to situations. If we have control over our emotions we will respond accurately for any situation we face.
He uses the metaphor of the steering wheel to express the importance of us having to steer our life’s sailboat in the right direction. He compare the leak in the sailboat to the various problems / opportunities that we experience. If the leak is not repaired in the right way it may lead to be life threatening for everyone aboard. Similarly, if we just change the physical environment as a temporary fix it may not last long. We need to think of a practical, long term solution to permanently fix the leak . Finally he also talks about other sail boats that may cause an hinderance to your sailboats desired path but if we are able to steer the ship well then we would have build social connections and other ships will not have a major impact on our ship.
I really liked the metaphor shared by Hugo Alberts and thought it was extremely relevant to all of us in our current scenario. We do not have the control of our external environment but what we can do it ensure we are healthy and strong and keep covid at bay.
