What I learnt in 2020

This is my last article for this year and I wanted it to be full of fun, little inspiring, showing a feeling of gratitude and learning from our past. Thus decided to share my takeaways from this bizzare year 2020. I call it bizzare, as there have been highs and lows, happiness and sadness , caring, sharing, forgiving and not to forget a mixed set of emotions and sentiments.

The year started with a bang filled with enthusiasm and excitement. I had made some new year resolutions. But resolutions are meant to be broken, hence probably broke it during January itself. But what stayed on was the determination to keep myself physically fit which I think I have done some justice. March was a month of mixed emotions and that’s where I learnt to self introspect the most. It was not only Covid-19 but also some personal loss that made me think that why certain  things / events happen in your life which give you a totally different meaning to your own life.

Today being 30th December 2020, I thought is the right day to put down my learnings from this year and start the new one with renewed belief in self.

  1. Always be Consistent in with whatever you do – it pays in the long run.
  2. Never Give up – Giving up is easy but being persistent is what leads to success.
  3. Be physically fit as that gives you the mental strength to deal with emotions.
  4. Be happy – if you are happy you can spread it to your near and dear ones.
  5. Be Optimistic – when life throws lemons make lemonade
  6. Be strong – By this  I am more referring to mental health.
  7. Have Trust – Everyone around you is in the same ship so showing trust rebuilds and makes the relationship stronger.
  8. Empathize – Everyone may not share their emotions but what is key is to understand it even without they expressing it.
  9. Be Grateful – It is only when you face loss, you realise the magnitude. Hence be grateful when you have it.
  10. Cherish every movement – Life is very unpredictable and living in the present is key.

This year has taught the entire world that everything can be done through a click of button being at home. Be it shopping , education , meetings and conferences , social events and event healthcare.  Everyone  has become technology savvy be it 3 year old kids attending nursery school online to senior citizens doing zoom video calls. The work from home has helped nuclear families spend more time with their kids , playing board games , doing group activities , baking as a family etc.

It seems like we can reach out to anyone and suddenly the world has shrunk.  Now I can get the best professor of Harvad teaching me online or be concerned about children being over supposed to the internet and social media at a very young age.

So though the year has been eventful in many ways there are many positives to learn from. Let us welcome the new year 2021 with excitement and pray that things get back to normal soon!
